Foods of Athenry

Producer in Athenry;

Behind "The Foods of Athenry" is an enthusiastic farm family. Like many farm families - baking deliciously healthy food for their own kitchen table, driven by necessity but rooted in tradition.

If a discovery is said to be an accident meeting a prepared mind; then we took what life threw at us back in the early 2000's - uncertain future in agriculture, childhood health problems which influenced a lifelong interest in the relationship of food vs health and set up a bakery business in which  there was no room for any artificial food additives. And so we sold the cows in 2004 and the bakery moved into the now empty milking parlour. The Foods of Athenry was born. And should you believe in the mysteries of the Universe, my grandparents owned one of the largest bakeries in the West of Ireland almost a hundred years ago. There is tradition in my fingertips, and the magic in my hands.

The love of good food is something that was, and still is, a family passion. In bringing up our own family we firmly believed that 'good food promotes good health', so we took great care in preparing our own breakfasts, lunchbox snacks and treats. When this way of life turned into a business, we applied that same simple rule to all our delicious products - whether they be VEGAN , GLUTEN FREE, DAIRY FREE, or not.  With crackers, cookies, cereals and bars - we know we are doing a good  job as our many happy and satisfied customers tell us so. The very clever people at Blas na hEireann, McKenna Food Guides, Georgina Campbells IRELAND, Good Food Ireland and at the Great Taste Awards also tell us so ...  often.. !

The road had not been smooth, a fire gutted all the hard work in June 2011. A case of man makes plans, God laughs.

But we picked ourselves up and got to it again. So now we are older, wiser, stronger and appreciate all the good in our lives and the 3rd chance we've been given.

The hard work and attention to detail has paid of. Named as one of the top 10 bakeries in the Hot Press 2015 publication ‘Best of Ireland’ their review sums us up thus .. "You might think a health conscious bakery somewhat oxymoronic, but that’s exactly what the Lawless family offer. A dairy farm turned bakery, they have a dedicated gluten free facility where they produce coeliac friendly treats and have won 38 awards for their produce over the last six years. Plus the setting is pretty darn picturesque"
