Producer in County Kilkenny;
Mileeven was establised in 1988 by Eilis Gough as Joe, her husband, kept bees as a hobby. Being from Dublin you would wonder how Eilis ended up beekeeping in Kilkenny!
Stuck in traffic one evening, Eilis and Joe decided that there must be something else to do and so took up an evening course to avoid the traffic, which was beekeeping (the second option was cabinet making).
They started with two hives in the back garden of their house in Donabate. Fast forward a few years and the family moved to Piltown, County Kilkenny where space was not an issue. Joe’s two hive hobby and love for bees and Irish honey turned into a 100 hive job and Mileeven was born.
"Mil" is the Irish for honey and "Aoibhinn" (pronounced "eeven") means delightful! Delightful honey it was and still is, and so a small business, starting with just Pure Irish Honey, run from their kitchen grew to where they are today.
Mileeven is run now by Eilis along with Sarah, her daughter, still in Piltown, Co Kilkenny. It is one of the leading honey companies in Ireland. The range has increased to include other honeys as well as Irish honey, like Manuka honey, Organic honey, Honeycomb and Lavender honey. The company also offers preserves, cakes and other confectionary. They have stayed true to producing honey that is good for bees and great for taste. All their honeys are pure, raw honey.
Mileeven has received awards from the Great Taste Awards, Irish Food Awards and Gulfood Awards as well as Organic Trust Certification.
